Exploring Hands-On Learning at IUS "Show and Tell" Winter School 2025
The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) hosted its Winter School, "Show and Tell" 2025, from January 10-22, 2025, at the IUS Campus. This initiative was tailored for high school students from Bosnia and Herzegovina, offering them an in-depth introduction to IUS study programs through program overviews, meetings with academic staff, campus tours, and engaging activities.
The Winter School provided prospective students with a glimpse of the high-quality education at IUS, showcasing its state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities that support academic and professional growth. Each study program organized activities to help visitors explore their areas of interest and gain insight into what their academic journey at IUS could entail.
Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS)
The IUS IT Programs (Software Engineering (SE), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering (AIDE)) hosted a C++ programming competition to test and showcase students’ coding skills highlighting the analytical and technical expertise central to these fields. Architecture (ARCH) introduced creative building drawing through imaginative exercises combining shapes and design concepts offering insights into combining artistic vision with architectural principles. Genetics and Bioengineering (GBE) demonstrated DNA sample loading on gel and guided students through GBE laboratories in the IUS Research and Development Center (RDC) providing hands-on experience in genetic research techniques. Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) engaged students in hands-on Arduino projects, successfully completed during the session giving them practical experience in designing and implementing electronic solutions. Mechanical Engineering (ME) familiarized students with SolidWorks, a vital software for product development in engineering, as well as 3D printers, demonstrating their critical role in creating precise and innovative engineering designs.
Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS)
Psychology (PSY) conducted a workshop to enhance focus and cognitive skills through interactive activities helping students develop skills that improve academic performance and daily mental focus. Media and Communication (MAC) showcased news and video production, with diction exercises and live news presentations preparing students for real-world media scenarios by honing their presentation and production abilities. Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design (VACD) offered demonstrations of various drawing techniques and 3D design software introducing students to tools and techniques essential for modern visual communication and creative industries.
Faculty of Business and Administration (FBA)
Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) tasked students with writing a manifesto addressing societal changes they envision fostering critical thinking and encouraging students to articulate their vision for a better society. Management (MAN), Economics (ECON), and International Business and Finance (IBF) study programs organized a startup project, where students developed and presented innovative business ideas allowing students to apply entrepreneurial concepts and showcase their creativity in solving real-world business challenges.
Faculty of Law (FLW)
Prospective students had the opportunity to participate in engaging mock trial simulations, experiencing the dynamics of a courtroom setting. These activities emphasized the importance of mastering strong argumentation, logical reasoning, and effective communication—skills essential for success in the legal field.
Faculty of Education (FEDU)
Turkish Language and Literature, Teaching (TLT) hosted an interactive and entertaining quiz designed to test participants' knowledge of Turkish culture, traditions, and language. This activity not only deepened their understanding but also provided a glimpse into the enriching academic journey they can expect from the program.
The IUS “Show and Tell” Winter School 2025 concluded successfully, inspiring prospective students to envision their futures at IUS while highlighting the dynamic and supportive learning environment that the university offers.
