IUS Architecture Students Visit the Construction Site of the Future National and University Library of BiH
Last week, Architecture students from the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS) at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) had the unique opportunity to visit the construction site of one of the most important cultural and educational landmarks in the country — the future National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The visit, organized within the Architectural Design Studio V course led by Prof. Adi Ćorović, offered students a chance to connect theory with practice and experience first-hand the process of creating a complex architectural structure.
With the consent and professional support of the project’s designer, Prof. Arch. Adnan Pašić, the group was welcomed at the site by Mr. Leon Razdrić, civil engineer and construction manager from ANS Drive. He provided valuable insights into the construction process, explaining the building techniques, challenges faced during development, and the innovative sustainable solutions applied in the project.
Throughout the visit, students learned about the different stages of architectural realization — from conceptual and main design to execution and as-built documentation. They also gained a better understanding of the collaborative relationship between architects, contractors, and civil engineers — a vital component in every successful construction project.
Students were particularly inspired to hear that, in the near future, construction will also begin on another major cultural project in the same area — the Ars Aevi Museum of Contemporary Art, designed by the world-renowned architect Renzo Piano.
Touring the entire site, students engaged in lively discussions, asked technical and creative questions, and received practical answers directly from professionals in the field. This invaluable real-world experience serves as a strong foundation for their upcoming academic project — the design of a museum — within the Architectural Design Studio V course.
Such hands-on experiences reflect the IUS commitment to providing its students with a dynamic and practice-oriented education that bridges academic learning and professional reality — preparing future architects to shape the spaces and cultural landmarks of tomorrow.
