ARCH401 Exhibition: Inclusive, Safe, Resilient and Sustainable Cities
The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) has been incorporating sustainability topics into its course offerings for many years, across various study programs. Through these programs, the university aims to provide practical guidelines and examples to encourage students to actively engage in society, both in their personal lives and professional environments. One such course is ARCH401 Architectural Heritage Conservation, offered as part of the Architecture study program.
Currently, students and staff at IUS can view an exhibition showcasing student projects from the ARCH401 course, completed during the Fall semester of the academic year. These projects focus on the adaptive reuse of existing historical buildings in Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly in Sarajevo. Students are tasked with proposing innovative approaches to ensure the preservation and continued relevance of these architectural landmarks.
Dr. Tarek El-Akkad, the esteemed professor who teaches the ARCH401 course at IUS, emphasized that the course content aligns with Goal 11 of the SDGs: to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. He expressed pride in the awareness of sustainability issues among IUS architecture students, highlighting their contribution to the sustainable development of their country.
